IKA - Horizontal kneading machines
IKA heavy-duty horizontal kneading machines of type HKD and HKS are twin bowl kneading machines with horizontally arranged kneading shafts which are differing in their kneading tools.
The HKD is equipped with DUPLEX kneading blades, deeply intermeshing and stripping each other. The different speed of the kneading blades (speed ratio 2 : 1) causes the kneading blade surfaces to alternately move towards and away from each other. This results in high pressure-, tensile- and shear forces and thus in high friction within the kneading product which cares for excellent dispersing and homogeneity.
The HKS is equipped with 2 Z-kneading blades which distinguish by left-hand and right-hand twisting. This twisting of the Z-blades causes continuous movement of the material from the kneading bowl walls to its centre or vice versa, depending on the direction of rotation. The different speed of the counter rotating kneading shafts (speed ratio 5 : 3) creates high pressure and shear forces resulting in an intensive mixing.

Drive Systems
Kneading drive
These 3 drive systems are also offered in Ex-protected design. The frequency converter itself is not Ex-protected and has always to be installed outside the hazardous area.
- hydraulic drive: infinitely adjustable speeds, Ex-protected
Discharge screw
- pole-changeable geared motor: choice between two fixed speeds
- geared motor with frequency converter: speeds can infinitely be adjusted via frequency converter

Options
For our horizontal kneading machines we offer a great number of helpful options, e.g.: ·
- discharge screws
- removable side wall for easier cleaning of the kneading tools, the bowl and the discharges screw
