The Vial Visual Inspection System (VVIS-SXX), which captures images of freeze-dried injection drug vials from multiple directions for sophisticated image processing, enables highly accurate inspection of both vials and their contents. In addition to the lighting system and inspection algorithms most suitable for characteristics of each inspection surface, the VVIS-SXX employs feeding and transfer systems that carefully handle delicate vials, ensuring consistent, high-level inspection.

Colorless and transparent glass vials (tubular, molded)
Cake: White or light colored

Bottle height 30-70 mm (with a rubber stopper fully tightened)
Bottle diameter (trunk): phi15-33 mm
Cake height: over 5 mm (including thickness of vial bottom)

  • Inspection items

Cake: Foreign particles, dirt, level, freeze-dry condition

Bottle: Foreign particle, dirt, cracks, scratches, splashes

Cap: Omissions, tightness, different types, defective print, dirt

Rubber stopper: Omission, splash, dirt

  • Inspection surfaces

Cake: Entire surface (top, side, bottom)
Bottle: Shoulder, side, bottom, cap (top, side), aluminum side

Defects equivalent to a 50micrometer square or larger black speck

Features of the System 

  • Highly Accurate Inspection

The multi-optical-fiber illumination using high-luminance light source provides uniform light over the entire surface of vials of various shapes. Under the bright, uniform light, the high-resolution CCD line sensor camera enables detection of defects equivalent to a 50micrometer square black speck, ensuring highly accurate inspection. Also, the compact vial holding mechanism enables obstacle-free, whole surface inspection.

  • Stable Transportation

Thanks to the development of a stable transfer system that handles delicate vials gently, consistent and accurate inspection can be performed without damaging vials. Also, increased processing speed of the alignment, transfer and driving units as well as the video signal processor has achieved significant improvement in processing capacity.

  • Improved Information Processing Function

The panel computer with an easy-on-the-eyes large screen makes input/output operations easy and simple. Inspection results can be monitored in real time. The VVIS-SXX includes hardware necessary for communication with an external computer

  • Enhanced Validation Function

In addition to the reliable self-diagnosis functions, security control capability has been improved specifically for the management of condition settings of the system. In the initial test mode and the inspection mode, information is displayed for easy monitoring of operating status of the system.
